Desiderata is Latin for 'things desired'. It's the title of a poem written by a famous American poet, writer and attorney Max Ehrmann in 1926.
Here's the last two stanza of the poem.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
At least, three important lessons in there, if only we would heed, we would be just fine.
- Be at peace with God.
- Truly realize that it is a beautiful world even when things are not going our way.
- That we should strive to be happy and be cheerful.
These are not only Islamic teachings but also universal.
Hmm...like flowers. It's a universal language that spells happiness, hope, good wishes and __ and __ and __ [you fill in the blank].
The truth is that, that which we really seek is none but He. Subhan is Allah.
